The thesis

The Cayman R is the ultimate 987 variant: 330PS 3.4L flat-six, 55kg lighter than the S, manual or PDK. Only 1,621 built globally, with ~250 for UK. Prices now range £55–80K for good examples, and the model has quietly appreciated since 2020. The 987.2 Cayman R represents the last naturally aspirated, hydraulic-steering, mid-engine Porsche before turbocharging arrived with the 718. It sits well below the GT3 'tax' but shares the same ethos, making it one of the best value analogue Porsches today and primed for further appreciation.
