Is the Porsche Cayman a good investment?
R (987.2, 2010–2012)
The thesis
The Cayman R was the last naturally aspirated, manual, lightweight Cayman before turbocharging arrived with the 718. Just 1,525 built globally, estimated ~180 RHD. It shed 55 kg, gained 10 hp (330 hp), and included fixed-back bucket seats, limited-slip diff, and shorter gearing. The market has been slow to recognise it—standard 987 Caymans sit £20k–£35k, meaning the R's £40k–£60k band offers a narrow premium for a much rarer, more focused car. As collectors wake up to last-of-breed Porsches, the Cayman R is undervalued relative to GT products.
