Is the Porsche Cayman a good investment?
987.2 R (2009–2012)
The thesis
The 987.2 'R' (badged post-facelift, DFI 3.4L, 320bhp) is the ultimate naturally aspirated Cayman—last of the hydraulic-steering, NA flat-six mid-engine Porsches before the 981 went electric-steering and the 718 went turbo-four. DFI engines solved IMS/bore-score gremlins. Manual examples trade £28-35k currently, well within budget ceiling, yet the car remains overshadowed by 911 worship and overlooked by collectors chasing air-cooled or GT cars. This is genuinely early: no hype cycle, strong Porsche liquidity, and the DFI engine's long-term reliability will be recognized as these age into classics.
