Is the Porsche Cayman a good investment?
987.2 2.9 / S manual (2009–2012)
The thesis
Mid-engine, naturally aspirated flat-six with hydraulic steering and a slick six-speed manual. The 987.2 (2009+) DFI engines dodge IMS and RMS issues of 987.1, and added four oil pickups for track reliability. Production of manual base (2.9) and S (3.4) was tiny—~5,000 US units total, half UK. Market has been flat 2020–25 at £20–30k; enthusiasts call this the value sweet spot before the turbocharged 718. Cayman R (330hp, 2012 only) commands £40k+ but base/S manuals offer 90% of the thrills.
