Is the Porsche 911 GT3 a good investment?
996.2 GT3 (2004–2005, US market)
The thesis
The 996 GT3 is the first-ever GT3 and is powered by the race-bred Mezger flat-six—a fundamentally different engine to the standard 996 that avoids all the IMS bearing issues. Only sold in the US for 2004–2005 model years, making US examples scarce. Manual-only, naturally aspirated, and track-focused purity at a fraction of 997.2 GT3 money. Market data shows values have stabilised after a run-up, but low-production numbers and motorsport DNA position this as early-cycle; the 997 GT3s have already run hard, but the 996 GT3 remains undervalued relative to its significance as the blueprint car.
