Is the Porsche 911 a good investment?
997.2 GT3 RS (2009–2011)
The thesis
The 997.2 GT3 RS is the last naturally aspirated 911 GT3 RS before the 991 generation introduced refinement at the expense of rawness. The 3.8-litre flat-six revs to 8,500 rpm and produces 450 bhp; PDK wasn't available, so all are manual. The 997.2 RS is lighter, louder, and more focused than the 991, and collectors prize its analogue purity. UK prices have firmed to £120–180k depending on mileage and spec. It bridges the gap between the raw 997.1 GT3 RS and the more refined 991, capturing the best of both eras. However, it lacks the last-of-breed manual cachet because the 991.1 GT3 also offered a manual.
