The thesis

The 997.2 solved the IMS bearing issue that plagued earlier 996/997.1 cars and represents the last hydraulic-steering 911 generation with the Mezger-derived direct-injection flat-six. Manual Carrera S coupes, especially Gen 2, remain accessible daily-driver 911s while offering strong Porsche liquidity. Recent UK sales show £27,750 to £45,000 for good manual examples. Produced in far lower numbers than planned due to the 2008 financial crisis, which has kept supply tight. The manual-gearbox premium is widening as PDK cars dominate.
