The thesis

The 996 GT3 (3.6L Metzger flat-six, 381 hp, manual-only) is the first water-cooled GT3 and has appreciated steadily over the past decade. Forum discussions indicate current pricing around £75,000–£80,000 for good examples, with strong demand. However, this places the 996 GT3 well above your £55,000 ceiling except for very high-mileage outliers. The 996 GT3 market has already run significantly, and while it remains a brilliant driver's car, it is now priced beyond your budget parameters. Consider instead the 997.1 GT3 (2006–2009) which is similarly expensive, or focus on more accessible naturally aspirated Porsches within budget.
