The thesis

The 350Z HR (2007-09) with the revised 308bhp VQ35HR engine and six-speed manual is the overlooked naturally-aspirated JDM hero. At £12k-£20k for decent examples and sub-£30k for exceptional low-mileage cars, it sits well below budget and hasn't had its run. The post-2006 HR revision fixed earlier issues and delivered peak Nissan VQ theatre. The 350Z is undervalued relative to the Supra and GT-R in the JDM hierarchy but shares the same generational nostalgia (Gran Turismo, Fast & Furious). Manual HR GT-pack cars are the collector spec, and supply of unmolested examples is tightening as drift tax takes its toll.
