Is the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG a good investment?
Coupe (2010–2014)
The thesis
The SLS AMG is AMG's first ground-up supercar: gullwing doors, hand-built 6.2L naturally aspirated V8 (571 bhp), aluminium spaceframe, and direct 300SL heritage. Prices bottomed around £100k in 2014 and have firmed to £115k–£180k for standard examples, with top-spec low-mileage cars now £180k–£200k. The naturally aspirated M156 V8 is the last of its kind from AMG, and the gullwing SLS is unlikely to be repeated. The market has recognized this, but the SLS remains accessible at the top of the budget. It's mid-cycle—no longer cheap, but blue-chip and genuinely usable. Spec matters enormously: carbon ceramics, B&O, carbon trim command premiums.
