Is the Ferrari 458 Speciale Aperta a good investment?
(2014–2015)
The thesis
The Aperta is the ultra-rare open-top sibling to the 458 Speciale, limited to precisely 499 examples globally. It shares the Speciale's 605hp 4.5-litre NA V8 but adds the drama of alfresco driving with minimal weight penalty (~110 lbs). UK average values sit at £685k, with recent high-water marks exceeding £2.2M for exceptional provenance. The Aperta ticks every box: last naturally aspirated Ferrari V8 spider, tiny production, and convertible desirability. However, current pricing is already at the top of the stated budget range (£600–850k) and represents a mid-cycle position. Best examples will preserve capital robustly, but explosive upside is unlikely at this entry point. Low-mileage UK RHD cars are especially prized.
