Is the BMW M3 CSL a good investment?
E46 SMG (2003–2004)
The thesis
Only 422 RHD CSLs were built, making this one of the rarest modern BMWs. The CSL was the swan-song of the E46 M3, stripping 110kg and installing the 360hp S54 straight-six—BMW M's last naturally-aspirated 3-series engine. Recent UK auction sales range £66k–£135k depending on mileage. The manual SMG conversion (12 known examples) adds scarcity, though factory SMG is the authentic spec. Low production and end-of-era status give this genuine collectability, but prices have already doubled from 2018 lows.
